We pick these nights based on Mother Nature giving us a window of opportunity and March looks like a good one. The full moon is actually on the 13th but it rises too late for us. So by going out Wednesday night we get the Moonrise and as an added bonus should have a beautiful sunset as well.To book your slot open the calendar and navigate to March 12th.
If you have your own board or boat then the cost is $20 to attend. If you need to rent a boat or board you can rent a single kayak or SUP for the event for $40 or a double kayak for $60 + tax. While many people have done the event on SUP’s, kayaks tend to work better for staring up into the sky! Reservations are required so call us at 650-362-4345 to reserve your spot. We don’t take online reservations for these events as we want to talk to you and make sure you are prepared for these unique opportunities. Spots are limited so reserve your spot early.
These events are not for first time paddlers. You should have the basics down before paddling at night. It’s important to dress accordingly. While it will be nice as we start out as the sun sets it gets cold quickly.
What to wear – Dress in warm clothing that is based on synthetic fibers. NO COTTON. Materials like Nylon, Spandex, Lycra, Radon or Goretex are perfect. If you want to be really warm, and think getting wet would be in your future a layer of neoprene is not a bad idea. A thinner non-surfing wetsuit as a base layer, like a 2mm shorty or 3/2 fullsuit will make your evening bulletproof. With that said most folks wear layers of synthetic fiber based clothing. A warm beanie is a good call too – but again NO COTTON.
If you have a VHF radio bring it. Cell phones recommended but make sure you have a waterproof bag and a float. Paddle with your cell phone at your own risk!
Life Jackets and Leashes are required.
Subject to cancellation if the weather is not safe and we will notify everyone by the day before if not earlier. Any cancellation by us – for weather or other safety reasons – will result in full refunds for everyone. Cancellation requires 48 hours to get a refund as these spots are highly desired.
We’ll provide the lights, along with some glow sticks, and multiple of our on the water guides to keep everyone safe. Low light photography will be attempted by your guides but no promises on Ansel Adams like photos. If you have lights bring them. More is better.
