About this Event
About our Speaker and Subject
Ian Russell Lowell will be well known to many members as a regular lecturer and course leader at Knuston Hall. He has spoken on many subjects from the Ancient Egyptians and Hittites to the rise of the science fiction novel. This evening he will look at the pivotal cultural movement of the 16th century in Europe, the Reformation of the Church. Northampton was known as a town of radical religious thought, and its twin city of Marburg was no different - and what's more was in the heart of the Holy Roman Empire, which was dedicated to the protection of the Roman Catholic Church. And what has it all got to do with playing cards, snails and shoes?
