Please join Jenniffer Omaitz of JC Marbling and Book Arts along with Dawn Tekler, encaustic wax artist for a one-day event of traditional marbling and encaustic wax demo at 78th Street Studios. During this event, Jenniffer will demo several patterns and allow patrons to pull unique one-of-a-kind designs in the marbling process. Dawn Tekler will demonstrate how she paints with encaustic wax and creates her unique paintings.
What is Marbling? It is the creative act of using watercolor or water-thinned paint dispersed on a bed of thickened water (carrageenan) to create original and ornate designs by either raking, manipulating, or drawing with a thin tool into the water/paint surface. Each print pulled is essentially a monoprint after a sheet of prepared paper is carefully laid on top of the inked water.
Encaustic wax is the ancient art of painting with hot wax. Dawn mixes her own wax with powdered pigments and oil paint to create rich colors and textures. She uses various tools, such as putty knives and a heat gun, to apply the medium, which allows her to layer the wax to create depth and dimension.
