Join Keystone Trails Association for a sweet introduction to spring along the Conestoga River!Learn winter tree identification with PA Master Naturalists Ross and Mary Patterson and experience a live maple sugaring demonstration with Lancaster County Park Naturalists.
On this scenic 2.5-mile hike, we'll explore how to identify trees by their buds and bark—key features that help when leaves aren't around. Our route follows the beautiful Conestoga River and crosses a historic covered bridge, with moderate ups and downs and some uneven footing along the way.
The hike concludes at Lancaster County Park's live maple sugaring demonstration site, where you'll sample delicious maple sugar candy and discover how tree sap transforms into maple syrup. Depending on the weather, we may even spot a few early spring wildflowers!
Optional: Join us for lunch in Lancaster City after the hike!
Weather Note: If snowy or icy conditions are expected, participants will be emailed in advance about appropriate footwear.
Registration is required.
