About this Event

This is a beginners courses and there is no need for previous experience.

You will learn the key skills to read a map and use a compass.

Here are some of the key skills you will be learning:

  • How to read and take a grid reference.
  • How to use a map and compass to navigate between two points.
  • How to interpret terrain based on map contours.
  • How to use map symbols and scales, on a variety of maps.
  • How to orientate the map with and without a compass.
  • How to use linear features as handrails.
  • How to estimate distance on both map and ground.
  • How to plan a safe, suitable walk.
  • How to relocate when it goes wrong.
  • Access rights and responsibilities.
  • Equipment choice & what to take with you.

We will meet at Brimslade for a 9.30am start and finish 4.30pm

The route we be a combination of byways, Bridleways, and footpaths,

This is a beginners course no need for any previous experience, The total distance that we will walking is approximately 10 km.

Maps and campuses are available for you to use on the day.
