Please join us for evening of Kirtan from 17:00 until 20:00 at Anton Graff-Strasse 75, Winterthur.
Kirtan meditation is practice that leads to development of prema, or divine love. We find kirtan within the bhakti (loving devotion) yoga tradition, one of the four overarching schools of yoga described in the Bhagavad Gita.
Yoga is not a religion but a way to link oneself with one's spiritual ideal and find one's origins.
Most people who have practiced yoga postures for a while come to hear of the eight angas ("limbs") of classical yoga, beginning with yama and niyama. These form a constellation of behaviors and practices that ensure the promised goal as it's defined in classical raja (asthanga) yoga.
Bhakti has its own limbs. Nine to be exact, and we will discuss them some other time. Of all the practices of bhakti, the anga, or limb, of kirtan is primary. The goal of bhakti is to realize the self and unite us with our Divine Other in love (prema), and the sacred sound of kirtan has the power to effect the inner changes required to achieve this goal.
And what better way to augment devotion than to sing with love for Beloved?
You can think of kirtan as the joining of mantra and soul in song to make a heart connection with the Supreme.
The feeling part of our chanting - the love, adoration, appreciation, yearning, tenderness, longing, and passion we try to imbue it with - is the core of our practice.
Entrance is free and there are always some free vegan and vegetarian snacks and drinks to replenish your energy after Kirtan 😊.
