Saturday, Nov. 1, 9:00-12:00 pm. Join the Mangrove Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society and our guide, Mike Stanfield, on a walk at the Charlotte Harbor Preserve State Park, 12301 Burnt Store Rd., Punta Gorda, 33955. (It is about 3 miles south of the intersection of US 41 and Burnt Store Rd, on the right (west) side of Burnt Store Rd.) Nicknamed "the Plant Dude", Mike was a Park Ranger at the Myakka River State Park for over 12 years. The second of two gates will be open and there is a parking lot and bathroom facility. From there we will carpool to an area about 6 miles, just south of the Lee County line (and a Dollar General store). There is another gate- we will park inside that gate. The hike will be along service roads and a lot of it is in open sun. Round trip will be approximately 2.5 miles. It is a fairly easy walk but will have some sand and is not ADA friendly. Please wear closed shoes as there are a lot of sandburs in places. There are no restrooms at the trailhead! No dogs please. This area is not usually open to the public. This event is free, and all are welcome to participate. For more information, contact [email protected].
