6-piece West-African soul ensemble MANDENG GROOVE perform a once-off show at Smith's Alternative Friday November 7th.Co-created by Guinean-Australian multi-instrumentalist Amadou Kalissa and Melbourne/Naarm producer and guitarist Kyle Muir, Mandeng Groove's live show centers around the music of the kora, traditional harp of the Manding people from West Africa.
Blending traditional repertoire with jazz, soul, funk and all places groove, Mandeng Groove bring you a musical gift from Conakry to Canberra.
A trip to Guinea in 2024 by these Melbourne based musicians resulted in their debut album 'Conakry'. The album was recorded with out of the family-run home studio in Conakry, Guinea in collaboration with local musicians.
From upbeat drum-driven songs that make you want to boogie, to poetic and spiritual ‘sonic love letters’ that make you sway with delight, 'Conakry' captures the beauty of Manding music and culture, while adding contemporary instrumentation and production.
Mandeng Groove invites you to celebrate this cross-continental creation. Come and dance or just sit back relax and immerse yourself.
