Get the solid facts on Manchester's stone on a walk from the Bridgewater Hall to Manchester Cathedral. This tour covers fossils, erosion, stone as a status symbol, and the deeper meanings behind how stone makes humans feel things. We'll talk about how Manchester's building materials have changed over time, from local red sandstone to Portland Stone from the South Coast. There'll also be some deep time and a bit of stoney temporality.
The practical details
We'll walk about a mile in 2 hours, with stops along the way. Meet at the main entrance to the Bridgewater Hall, by the Ishinki Touchstone. The tour will end at Manchester Cathedral. Kids under 12 tour free!
