About this Event
I am Clancy Nook, Manchester's favourite raconteur. Join me on this pay-as-you-feel tour, and you will not simply hear about Victorian Manchester - you will spend a day there!
Set in the 1850s in a rapidly changing city, you will meet two characters and join them for a walk through a day in their lives. You will trace the footsteps of Edward and Eithne, two Victorian Mancunians from opposite ends of the social spectrum, based on the lives and experiences of real people.
On this tour:
- Learn of the horrors of the industrial slum of Little Ireland and the hardships of its inhabitants
- Find out why Manchester was at a tipping point in the 1850s - from a milling town to the centre of a global trade
- Visit the workplaces of our two characters, and join them on their daily appointments!
- Experience the grandeur of Victorian Manchester, for those with the money to exploit it
This is a roughly 90-minute walking tour of the city centre. Meet for a prompt start in the outside area of the Thirsty Scholar, Wakefield Street. Please note it is not a circular route - we will end in St. Anne's Square.
This is a pay-as-you-feel tour. This is a 14+ event. Babies are welcome. I can only accommodate those who have booked a place for insurance reasons.
