Daniel Turner, Ella Hornby, Jennifer Stack, Christopher Jones and Vijay Rathour

Daniel Turner is Director at Grant Thornton UK LLP and leader of the Disputes Advisory practice in the North. Ella Hornby is a Resourcing Adviser at Grant Thornton UK LLP. Daniel and Ella will discuss the practice areas within Grant Thornton, including those which interact most with the legal profession.

Jennifer Stack is an Assistant Manager in Grant Thornton's insolvency and asset recovery team, and has a law degree and insolvency qualification. Jen will discuss the role of the team, types of insolvency procedures, the legal actions available to insolvency practitioners to recover assets and relevant transferable skills.

Christopher Jones is an Associate Director and licensed insolvency practitioner in Grant Thornton’s Insolvency and asset recovery team. Chris has a law degree and recently passed his insolvency practitioner exams. Chris will discuss some of his recent cases.

Vijay Rathour is a qualified solicitor who leads Grant Thornton’s Digital Forensic team. Vijay’s expertise is in Information Technology and Information Governance, Electronic Disclosure, Cybercrime and Incident Response and is recognized as an expert in electronic investigations and cyber risk management. Vijay was a member of the UK Courts’ Working Group on the redrafting of Civil Procedure Rule 31 B on Electronic Disclosure under Lady Justice Gloster. Vijay will discuss the part his legal training plays in his current role and developments in Digital Forensics including crypto-forensics and Sentiment Analysis.

3:30pm: Alternative Dispute Resolution mechanisms in the Enforcement of Security Interests and Insolvency

Professor Orkun Akseli

Professor Orkun Akseli is Professor of Commercial Law at the University of Manchester School of Law. He has published extensively on the modernisation and harmonisation of secured transactions law. His research has focused on the laws relating to secured credit, and the social and economic impact of these laws with reference to the financing of SMEs. He is an Associate Member of the International Academy of Comparative Law, President of the International Academy of Commercial and Consumer Law, and a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. He is a member of the Turkish Bar.

This talk will consider the use of mediation and arbitration in the enforcement of security interests and insolvency and provide a number of recommendations.
