About this Event
The Mancbeth stage show is based on David Lemberg's film script, 'Mancbeth' which updates Shakespeare's tragedy to a fictional acid house nightclub called Glam-iz in the early 90's in Manchester.
The soundtrack to the club is provided by live music performed by Octavia Freud & The Weird Sisters who are a brand new Oxford & Manchester based music collective.
Their sound combines Octavia Freud's electronic production with an array of vocal talents from the Oxford music scene, including Emma Hunter, Mila Todd, The Bobo, Cate Debu from The Subtheory, James from Pet Twin and Kate Hicks.
They will be launching their debut concept album, 'Mancbeth' with this special one off live music, visual and theatrical perfomance piece at Modern Art Oxford.
Macbeth is now the owner of Glam-iz nightclub with his wife and resident DJ Lady M and they are plotting to M**der their crime boss Duncan, blame it on his security and take over the drug running across the city to become the new King and Queen of Manchester.
Musician Octavia Freud plays the role of a fictional DJ who warms up the crowd at Glam-iz nightclub and gets to see Macbeth's scheming ways behind the scenes. He manages to survive to tell the tale and following Macbeth's demise he decides to record an album of songs recounting these strange events. He agrees to appear on a Mancbeth TV special hosted by legendary Factory records boss and TV music journalist Anthony Wilson.
Brian Gorman reprises his recent performance as Anthony Wilson from the New Dawn Fades production at The Royal Northern College of Music.
As the cameras role and Octavia Freud is interviewed for a Mancbeth musical special the audience begin to learn the depths of Macbeth's ambition to become top dog in Manchester.
This radical version of Macbeth depicts him as club owner, drug dealer and murderer and reflects the true life events in 90's Manchester music scene as the second summer of love came to a crashing end with the closure of The Hacienda club, the rise of drug gangs and guns on the streets.
Please note: The performance will involve flashing lights, projected visuals and loud music.
Please note: The performance will be filmed.
