Talk Title: On the Border: A Catholic Response to Immigration
Talk Description: While the debate over immigration rages in the United States, many Catholics are unaware of what the Church teaches on the issue. Amid the controversy and divisive rhetoric, the social teachings of the Catholic Church provide a more nuanced position in the debate that unfortunately has been pushed to the periphery. Come hear how the teachings of the Church can be applied to this current hot-button issue.
Bio of Speaker: A native of Virginia, Dr. Gross earned his B.A. in political science and religion from Hampden-Sydney College. After completing his M.T.S. at Harvard Divinity School, he earned his Ph.D. from Catholic University of America in 2013. Over the last ten years, he has taught a variety of graduate and undergraduate courses both online and in the classroom for several different institutions. He currently serves as an Assistant Professor at Divine Mercy University, where he teaches courses on philosophical and theological anthropology as well as marriage and family. Dr. Gross's writing has appeared in academic journals such as the Journal of Moral Theology, the Journal of Psychology and Theology, and the National Catholic Bioethics Quarterly. His current research interests are in the area of Thomistic virtue ethics, theological and philosophical anthropology, marriage formation, and bioethics. He resides in Manassas, VA, with his wife Jennifer and their seven children.
