Mama’s StewMama’s Stew is a solo dance routinely practiced by Whitey’s Lindy Hoppers as a warm up before they got onto the ‘real’ stuff! Named after Louise “Mama Lou” Parks, a former hostess at the Savoy Ballroom, Harlem, whose dance troupe ‘Mama Lu & The Parkets’ performed the routine regularly, the dance was originally choreographed by Lee Moates, George Sullivan, and Delma Nicholson of the Parkets.
Special guest teacher Emma Claydon will be running a workshop for the dance from 2pm-4pm Saturday May 10th. The routine can be energetic so the moves will be taught to slightly faster tempos as the class progresses.
