You’ll find soul at the heart of any band worth its salt.

It’s the unspoken magic that invariably unites musicians of different styles and sensibilities. It’s the magnetic force that pulls together genres. It’s what makes music connect cerebrally, physically, and spiritually. Mama Magnolia live on “the soulful side of rock.” The Denver six-piece—Megan Letts [lead vocals, keys], Thomas Jennings [guitar], Zachary Jackson [bass, vocals], Jackson Hillmer [drums], Carrie McCune [trumpet, vocals], and Alex Cazet [saxophone]—would be just as at home in a New York City jazz dive as they would be on forested festival grounds. Like a musical time-warp where Etta James fronted Lake Street Dive, they pepper this brew of soul and rock with boisterous horns, jazzy flavor, gospel heart, classical resonances, and even a little hip-hop swagger.

Music magnifies the human condition, highlighting both daily struggles and personal triumphs with the same sensitivity and sympathy. Portland-based singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Jay Cobb Anderson accepts the responsibility of such sonic discourse via his solo output. Moreover, he deciphers these universal experiences in the form of hummable, hypnotic, and heartfelt anthems steeped in storytelling folk tradition and amplified by unabashed rock ‘n’ roll energy.

He developed a knack for such writing via his downright prolific career thus far. Not only did he co-found folk rock phenomenon Fruition, but he also launched groups such as The Bell Boys and Rose City Thorns. His growing catalog includes 10 albums and multiple EPs, while he’s logged hundreds of gigs since launching his career in 2007. He served up his first solo offering, I’m a Rambler, I’m a Fool, during 2012.

With another solo record on the way, Anderson positions himself as a relatable and real voice for the modern age.

Carolyn Hunter is a dreamweaver, and on the brink of releasing a new synth-pop album titled “Lovelight” this coming Fall with Wolf Den Records. She is working with producer and multi-instrumentalist Julian Peterson out of Longmont, CO, harnessing a fresh alt-folk-pop sound. Described by many as having the ‘voice of an angel’ she has toured the world sharing stages with Lang Lang, Karla Bonoff, The Lil Smokies, The Good Lovelies, and many more.

Carolyn co-founded the Colorado based indie-folk band “The Heartstring Hunters” who were nominated by Denver Westword for “Best Folk Band.” As a vocalist for the Daniel Rodriguez Band (Elephant Revival) she performs across the country, over public radio, and on his latest record “Sojourn of a Burning Sun”. She performs with Canadian composer Jayme Stone and his new alt-pop project “Awake” and is quickly becoming loved for her fairylike melodies and Tracy Chapmanesque tones.
