About this Event
Join us to explore the area south of the British Camp Car Park. For those who joined us on our event on 12th May, this route goes in the other direction. In addition to climbing to the top of Herefordshire Beacon and Millennium Hill, we'll also travel to the Obelisk, all with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside, including Herefordshire, Gloucestershire and Herefordshire.
Distance: 8km / 5 miles
Time: 2.5 - 3.5 hours
Elevation: 300 metres / 1000 feet
Grade: Intermediate (find out more about our grades here)
Terrain: Mainly forest tracks - mixture of mud, grass and gravel.
Who will be your guide?
For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Megan Endean (megan.endean and endean_mountaineering on Instagram), and I’m a Mountain Leader, based in the Midlands but I grew up in Devon. My hobby (obsession!?) with being outdoors started with my Bronze Duke of Edinburgh, and I’ve never looked back. I’m passionate about improving accessibility to the outdoors, and aim to provide a safe and welcoming environment to all. I look forward to meeting you!
Transport
We will meet at the British Camp Car Park here.
By Car: There is a large car park, which costs £3.20 for the evening.
Liftshare: It would be great to liftshare as much as possible, if you can offer someone a lift please either post in the Geneva app (for members) or in the Facebook group. If you need help with liftsharing, please contact us at the earliest opportunity, as we cannot support last-minute requests.
What to bring:
- Boots or trainers with good grip (that you don’t mind getting muddy)
- Snacks and/or dinner - depending on whether or not you want to eat before.
- I always like to take a flask of tea, but that’s entirely optional
- Rucksack - any backpack that will hold everything you need is suitable.
- Water (I'd recommend at least 1 litre)
- Waterproofs if rain is forecast
- Sunhat/suncream
- Personal Medic*tion
Terrain:
Mainly forest tracks - mixture of mud, grass and gravel.
Toilets:
There are public toilets at the start and finish point. Other than this, you will have to embrace what we like to call a 'wild wee'! Luckily, the walk has a few hidden spots for this. If you need to go, just tell someone in the group and hang back for some privacy.
Consent Form:
If you are booked onto the hike please fill in one of these CONSENT FORMS no later than the night before. You will not be allowed to partake in the hike unless you have filled out this form.
Safety:
I like to make these hikes as enjoyable as possible for everyone, so I keep a slow and steady pace. It's about taking in the views and being in nature, not about rushing to the finish line. Having said that, you are responsible for your own health and safety. If you are unsure as to whether you are fit to come on these hikes, please either consult your doctor or let me know your concerns - I'd be happy to chat through any worries before you sign up to the hike.
I am a fully qualified Mountain Leader and I am level 3 Outdoor First Aid trained so I will be on hand in case of an emergency. I am also a Mental Health First Aider.
Dogs:
Well-behaved dogs are welcome on this walk.
Refund Policy:
Refunds will only be given if the event is cancelled. If you can no longer attend you are more than welcome to sell your ticket to someone else but please let me know if you do so.
Terms:
By signing up to this event, you are agreeing to our Terms and Conditions.
This event is for over 18's only.
