KorMalta, under the direction of its Chorus Master Riccardo Bianchi, embarks on a musical journey themed around the sea. The program embraces works from the Renaissance, beginning with the timeless Mille Regretz attributed to Josquin Des Prez, and Ecco mormorar l’onde, one of Monteverdi’s best-known madrigals with text by Torquato Tasso. The journey continues with more contemporary explorations of the sea, including Charles Camilleri’s (1931-2009) Pacem in Maribus, an evocation of peace in the seas. Also featured is John Rutter’s (b.1945) anthem on the theme of the environment, Look at the World, and Luciano Berio’s (1925-2003) reworking of the popular Sicilian melody E si fussi pisci, dedicated to Umberto Eco. Berio’s composition makes use of uncommon vocal techniques, including singing with the mouth closed and tongue clicking.
