WHO: Malagentia and Malegentia adjacent WHAT: PRIDE Portland
WHEN: June 15th, from 12:00-6:00
WHERE: Monument Square for the parade, and Deering Oaks Park in downtown Portland
WHY: To not only support the community that makes up so much of the SCA, but to show that Malagentia is a safe community for everyone.
HOW: We are going to be participating in both parts of PRIDE Portland this year; the first part is the parade, which will begin in Monument Square and ending at Deering Oaks Park. The parade will be accessible to wheelchairs and motorized scooters, though the speed of the parade may limit those using walkers or canes. The parade and festival portion of PRIDE ***will begin at the same time - 1:00PM***. Once at Deering Oaks, there will be tables/booths set up for folx to chat and learn about the SCA; for this portion we will need volunteers to talk about and bring props for: fencing, heavy list, fiber arts, calligraphy/illumination, and any other travel-friendly activity.
RULES: All martial accessories (rapiers, sabres, daggers, etc) must remain peaceful throughout the event.
VOLUNTEERS: We will need folx to volunteer for setup, tear down, and two shifts (2 hours each) for table time/demo. Set up will be from 12:00-1:00, the demo shifts will be from 1:00-3:00, and 3:00-5:00, tear down will be from 5:00-6:00. We will. Have cards and other materials for handing out, but remember, we are here to support and celebrate!
DEMO: This is a loose demo; meaning, we are looking for folx to sit under a pop-up, at a table/on the ground/in a chair, and illustrate some of the more travel-friendly activities that we like: weaving, embroidery, games, music, carving, etc. Marshal activities are OK to talk about and show-and-tell, but there will not be space for actual physical demo fights.
ROUTE: Starting at Monument Square, and proceeding along Congress St to Congress Square Park, down High Street to Park Ave where we will enter Deering Park by Mellon St. THIS WILL LAST ABOUT 1 HOUR.
PARKING/CARPOOLING: Parking will be extremely limited and therefore it will be pivotal to try and coordinate carpooling.
