Pioneer Works and the Library for the Performing Arts co-present classes and video tutorials to take users step by step through their Tech Kits for Performing Arts.
These in-person workshops will meet on Thursdays, July 7, July 14, and July 21, 2022, from 4:30-5:30pm in the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts’ Cafe. Please register for only one date.
Artist Carrie Wang has used chatbots, a computer program designed to simulate conversation with human users, in her performance practice to explore hidden systems. In this workshop, she invites participants to create chatbots following creative prompts by learning to use simple coding to build their own chatbots. The aim of this workshop is to explore the different roles Artificial Intelligence plays in human society in the process of creating and personalizing chatbots using the Library for the Performing Arts Tech Kits’ iPad, and mouse.
This workshop is a partnership between Pioneer Works, the Library for the Performing Arts, and Pioneer Works Tech Resident Alum Carrie Wang.

Carrie Sijia Wang is a New York-based artist, designer, and educator making work inspired by bureaucratic processes, standardized tests, and hidden systems. Combining art, technology, and research, she uses digital interface, human-machine interaction, computer synthesized voice, and generative text to explore the hidden systems between the real and the fictional, the rational and the absurd.
