About this Event
Attendees will hear a lecture from Dr. Andrew Aldrin, President of the Aldrin Family Foundation, a charitable organization dedicated to harnessing the inspiration of space to ignite a passion for STEAM education in students of all ages and backgrounds. Dr Aldrin has served in leadership roles in this organization since 2014, during which time he has overseen the extension of educational programs to over 300 elementary schools and universities.
Dr. Aldrin is also the Program Coordinator of the Masters of Space Operations at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. Previously he was the Director of the ISU Center for Space Entrepreneurship at Florida Tech and an Associate Professor of Engineering Management at Florida Tech. Before moving into academia, Dr. Aldrin had a distinguished career in industry and government research, including executive positions at Boeing, United Launch Alliance and Moon Express. https://aldrinfoundation.org/about-us/
Ahead of the lecture, attendees will hear from Dr Stephen Breslin, CEO of the Glasgow Science Centre, on how, with funding from the UK Space Agency, it has created a continuous programme of space themed learning - a Space Learning Pathway - for pupils throughout their school journey; one that is designed to inspire and encourage children from all backgrounds to pursue STEM education and careers within the Space industry. The Space Learning Pathway engages with children of all ages through curriculum-linked Learning Labs for children aged 6 to 13 and a STEM Futures programme for pupils in upper Secondary School.
The lecture is hosted by the University of Strathclyde, organised by RTC North and the West of Scotland Space Cluster, and supported by the Glasgow Science Centre and the Space Network.
