Making Of New Delhi - Pride of the British Raj!

To commemorate the inauguration of the English-built city of New Delhi on 13th February 1931, a heritage walking tour is being organized on Kartavya Path this Saturday evening, where we the storytellers of DelhiByFoot, will take you on a journey through the tales of how the site for New Delhi was chosen, to the architectural elements included like ceremonial avenues, tree-lined roads inter-linked with hexagonal roundabouts, parks and grand office buildings...from its planning challenges, political intrigues, and unexpected delays, hardships for Indians and eventually what New Delhi has been made into after independence.

This pinnacle of English architectural grandeur, often derided now as a symbol of our slavery as an English colony, has been the seat of government power, the political nerve-centre and the ultimate address to reside in for the movers 'n' shakers of India….governing the fate of Indians for the last 75 yrs.

It stands proud as a living historical legacy and testament to the caliber of Indians too...Indian historians, town planners, builders, horticulturist and above all thousands of Indian workers….carpenters, stonemasons/artisans and more who toiled over this English Crown's dream project in India…who raised from the dusty highlands of Raisena Village, with their efforts and labour, a brilliantly planned and executed brand new Imperial Capital of India.

Walk presentation will be done in Queen's English!
