About this Event
In an intimate(8 students total) class setting, participants will learn the basics of slab-building a mug and how to use simple techniques to create beautiful handcrafted pieces of functional art with ceramacist Jon Dazo.
Ages 13+ (All participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult due to the use of sharp tools and presence of chemical colorants (slips).)
The class will consist of 2 lessons:
1) Building a mug from slabs of clay with more than eight (8) texture designs to choose from; 2) How to use colored slips and wax to create unique designs that "pop" out, with either contrasting color or a unique bubble-blown finish!
Pieces are then fired, finished, and sent back to participants via pick up (free) or delivery (additional fee).
Take home: Participants will make two (2) handmade mugs: one slab-built and another with the class taker's own design; EACH with handmade handles. Colors and dimensions very, but each mug will hold at least 12oz. Pieces are fired and finished in a clear glaze OR glaze choice presented to participant before being prepared for pick up or delivery. Delivery fee is $15.00 for anywhere in the U.S.
Notes: Participants should bring clothes they can afford to get dirty, a hand towel, and hand lotion if you have dry hands. Bottled water or beverage is allowed.
