An emotionally repressed scientist (Malkovich) builds his look-alike automaton Ulysses (Malkovich) to go forth and colonize outer space. Instead, his automaton falls in love with Frankie (Magnuson), the publicist hired to convince the people that this whole shebang is not profoundly dystopian. Antics ensue.
