About this Event
Making Molly: Stories and Ships in Sunderland
Come join us for an exciting and free creative workshop for families with children from 4 to 12 celebrating the rich past and present of Sunderland! Get ready to dive into the fascinating story behind Sunderland's newest sculpture, Molly!
Molly is a World War II Shipbuilder and she represents the work of women in Sunderland's famous shipyards when their country asked for their help. This new sculpture will be moving into a brand new spot on the riverside in the next few months and we want you to create her story with us. You will have the opportunity to create your own stories and crafty works, share your work as part of a community created zine that we'll be depoisiting in libraries in the UK, or even help the University of Sunderland with real-life research about Molly and her place in our favourite city.
This is an inclusive and accessible event that invites you to do as much or as little as you like while you and your little ones learn all about the incredible story of women who played a part in shaping Sunderland's maritime heritage. A packed lunch snack option will be provided for children attending this event by More Than Grandparents. 1 ticket = 1 adult and 1 child. Children must be accompanied throughout the event.
This event is part of Being Human Festival, the UK’s national festival of the humanities, taking place 7–16 November 2024. Led by the School of Advanced Study, University of London, with generous support from Research England, in partnership with the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the British Academy.
