This October, in celebration of our upcoming Harvest Festival, Newcastle Cathedral invites you to explore the wonders and realities of rural life through a series of engaging events. In this hands-on workshop with studio potter Amy Rutherford, you'll craft your very own sheep-themed ceramic mug, complete with a charming sheep’s head motif.
Using stoneware clay, you'll learn the art of hand-building, shaping the mug from slabs of clay before bringing it to life with coloured underglazes. Add your personal touch with hand-drawn decorations or choose from a variety of stamps to create unique patterns that reflect your style.
Our relaxed and informal workshop is perfect for both beginners and experienced clay enthusiasts. Whether you're bursting with ideas or looking for a bit of inspiration, this workshop will provide all the help you need to make something brilliant!
This workshop coincides with Newcastle Cathedral's participation in the 'Illuminated Sheep' programme. Learn more about these events: https://newcastlecathedral.org.uk/whats-on/list/?tribe_eventcategory%5B0%5D=24
This event is inspired by the 'Illuminated Sheep' artwork, commissioned by Northumberland County Council and developed and managed by Queen’s Hall Arts and the Hexham Culture Network. It was part of the Cultural Programme of Hexham High Street Heritage Action Zone (HSHAZ) and funded by the North of Tyne Combined Authority, now the new North East Combined Authority.
