About this Event
Participants will learn the sewn-boards binding style, a bookbinding technique that requires minimal materials and tools while creating a book that lies flat when open, excellent for writing, drawing, planning, etc. Each participant will take home a 120-page blank pocket-size journal.
During a two-hour studio session, participants will learn how to:
- Identify paper grain direction
- Fold gatherings (“signatures”) with a bonefolder
- Sew covers and signatures together with the French sewing technique
- Explore methods of covering and decorating your journal
And have free/creative time to:
- Personalize your journal with decorative paper, collage, stamps, etc.
- Journal in your new notebook!
The instructor will bring additional resources to learn more about hand bookmaking. Journal prompts will also be available for participants to take with them at the end of the session to inspire an entry or two.
