Join drum-maker Gordy Bear - Wapisew Muskwa to make your own Elk Drum as part of the Quw'utsun Elders Bachyard Sessions at the Lila Music and Nature Centre Yurt.Bring your own lunch, drinks and snacks.

Registration: Register early - space is limited to 20 participants, 12 years or older. $350 cost includes all the materials. You must register and pay in full by Sept 20th at 2pm, to be registered and participate in workshop. TICKETS ARE NON-REFUNDABLE but you are welcome to pass your spot on to someone else.
Coast Salish community members can register for free or a reduced rate. No one is turned away for lack of funds. If you would like to request a different amount, please contact [email protected] from Social Planning Cowichan.

About Gordy Bear: Gordy Bear has been making drums for 18 years, and through multiple mentorships now offers his own drum making to indigenous and non indigenous community. Gordy is Cree/Métis from Sandy Bay Saskatchewan, and leads Spirit Bear Big Drum in the Victoria Community. You can follow the Drum Making journey at Gordy Bear Drum Making on Facebook.
Organizers: The Backyard Sessions are organized by Lila Music Centre with support from BC Arts Council, we are working in partnerships with Sacred Cedar Centre and Quw’utsun’ Cultural Connections Society/Social Planning Cowichan to allow us to provide honoraria to Elders who have made special time to lead each of our sessions.
This event is part of the Quwut’sun’ Elders Series: Backyard Sessions running from May 2024 to July 2025. Join us each month for nature and art-based community discovery and traditional cultural practices led by Knowledge Keepers.
