The warmth and beauty of a hand-made canoe paddle is hard to beat! Sign up for this class to create your own one-of-a-kind paddle.In this class, you’ll make your own straight-shaft canoe paddle, using basswood with accent wood strips. This is an excellent material for folks learning to work with wood, and hand tools.
On Day One, we’ll start building your paddle by gluing the blade and the grip onto a prepared shaft. We will discuss characteristics of various types of paddles, materials, and how to size a paddle to an individual person.
Day Two will be spent shaping your paddle, using both hand and power tools. Working with hand tools can feel like a workout, bring a water bottle.
Day Three we will continue to shape paddles, and discuss different types of finish to put on your paddle once you complete it. You will likely be going home with an incomplete paddle, needing to finish some sanding work and the varnish of your choice.
