About this Event
As part of the 2024 Being Human festival, join designer and researcher Darren Leader with Dr Sophie Butler and Dr Tom Roebuck from UEA for a hands-on workshop on merchant's marks at the Enterprise Centre and Productivity East at UEA, culminating in 3D printing. You'll be learning about the heritage of merchant's marks before creating your own, using cutting-edge 3D printing technology.
The results of the workshop will be displayed at the National Centre for Writing from the 15th-20th of November.
In medieval times, Norwich was an international trading centre with merchants’ marks - precursors of modern logos - stamped onto goods and carved into buildings. These forgotten landmarks, many of which are still visible today, were preserved through the efforts of antiquarian John Kirkpatrick (1687-1728) and Mark your Mark! celebrates him as a pioneer of sustainable heritage.
Please meet at the Reception of the Enterprise Centre at 14:00; the Enterprise Centre is located opposite UEA Sportspark, on University Drive (Campus Map (uea.ac.uk)). At 15:00 participants will take a short, wheelchair-accessible walk to Productivity East, near the Sainsbury Centre.
