About this Event
*This event is open to NYU Students, Staff, and Faculty only.*
Learn how to expand the accessibility of everyday toys in this beginner-friendly switch adapting workshop! We will modify battery-powered toys with external switches, making them accessible for children with disabilities. It’s all about turning toys into tools for learning and play! Switch adapted toys empower individuals with physical disabilities to explore and engage in activities independently. Even the simplest toys are often inaccessible for children with physical disabilities, meaning they must use custom switches to engage with devices and toys, which are extremely costly. By re-wiring and adding an auxiliary jack to the toy, children can then plug in their switch and play with toys they may not be able to otherwise. With the simple use of an external switch, unlock a world of fun, meaningful, and accessible experiences!
*This workshop is open to all current NYU student, staff, and faculty and will take place in-person at the NYU MakerSpace located in the Tandon School of Engineering on the Downtown Brooklyn campus.*
