On Make Music Day, musicians of all ages and skill levels share their love of music with communities around the world through free music performances and events on June 21.At the Eskenazi Health Thomas & Arlene Grande campus, a musical performance will feature Carl Hines on piano and Thomas Brinkley on bass at 3 p.m.
Make Music Day began in France in 1982 as the Fête de la Musique and is now celebrated on the same day in more than 1,000 cities in 120 countries. Make Music Day made its American debut 18 years ago in New York. Since then, more than 100 cities throughout the country have established city-wide celebrations that provide free music-listening and music-making opportunities for communities.
This is the second year Make Music Day will be recognized in Indianapolis as a city-wide event. Eskenazi Health is excited to once again spearhead Make Music Indy on June 21. Make Music Indy will be a collaboration of new and existing partners and supporters of the Marianne Tobias Music Program at Eskenazi Health. Free concerts will be held at the Eskenazi Health downtown campus and the Eskenazi Health Thomas & Arlene Grande Campus in addition to several other performance venues throughout the city. Be sure to bring lunch and a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy the free performances on The Matthew R. Gutwein Commonground in front of the Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital on June 21 from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.
This year’s downtown campus lineup includes:
• 11:30 a.m. – Community Group Drumming, led by Eskenazi Health board-certified music therapist Tori Davenport
• 12 p.m. – Bashiri Asad
In the event of inclement weather, performances will move inside the Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital to the Eli and Lilly Company Foundation Concourse.
