Join ceramicist Naomi Stokes and Meredith Mason at the Cadbury pub in Montpelier as they guide you step-by-step through the process of making your own slab-build ceramic mug.
You don't need to have any previous experience as everything will be fully covered on the day, but a steady hand and an eye for detail never goes amiss. You will be shown a demonstration of some of the fundamental slab building techniques including how to roll a slab, slip and scoring, as well as finishing and decorating techniques.
After the initial demonstration, spend the duration of the workshop piecing together your lovely mugs, practicing the core basics of hand-built ceramics as you go. Once formed, you can spend any remaining time decorating your piece with coloured slips or creating impressions with tools. This is a chance to really personalise your piece and express your creativity!
Your finished item will be left with your hosts who will fire and glaze your work. Mugs will be ready for collection 2-3 weeks after. This workshop will be hosted at The Cadbury in Montpelier so feel free to make the most of the bar. Uni students with a valid student card are welcome to a free half pint of beer/cider, 125ml wine, or half soft drink.
