• Do your students have difficulty in following spoken requests?

• Do you have reluctant communicators?

Makaton is a unique language programme that uses symbols, signs and speech to enable people to communicate. It supports the development of essential communication skills such as attention and listening, comprehension, memory, recall and organisation of language and expression.

Level 1 training is the starting point for learning Makaton. It is recommended for parents, family members, carers and workers who need to use Makaton at home and in their work. It is recommended for participants who need a more detailed knowledge about using and applying Makaton to develop the communication skills of others.

You will also learn the signs and symbols from Stages 1 and 2, and some of the Additional stage, of the Core Vocabulary.

We can offer support in the use of Makaton Signing, Symbols Programmes, Communication Books and Symbol Work. We can help you by discussing individual students and offering ideas and possible alternative ways of communicating that may help with understanding.

Once you have completed Level 1 & 2 you can proceed onto Level 3 & 4 which will look at more vocabulary, research and how to use signing and symbols in a classroom setting.
