One of the final statements of a great symphonist coming to terms with his own mortality, Das Lied von der Erde (The Song of Earth) counts among Mahler’s most poignant achievements, a hymn to the transience of human life and the eternal perfection of nature. This “song symphony” is paired with the world premiere of a new work by Bernd Richard Deutsch, the Orchestra’s Daniel R. Lewis Composer Fellow from 2018 to 2021.
