About this Event
Do you play American Mahjong or Canasta? Join Bev and Emily, canasta and mahjong instructors of The Canasta and Mahjong Connection, for a fun night at Trident Booksellers and Cafe to play canasta or mahjong and win fun prizes!
AGENDA:
6-7pm Join us for dinner, drinks and to mingle beforehand. Come solo or with a group and we'll help break the ice and introduce you to other people also looking to connect! Food and beverage is not included in the ticketing price and can be purchase separately. Please support Trident Bookseller for hosting us by purchasing food/drink during the night.
7-9pm Games begin! Please be prepared to start promptly at 7pm.
CHOOSE HOW YOU WANT TO PLAY:
Guided + Open Play
Choose to play canasta or mahjong and we'll match you based on level. Whether you choose the beginner or intermediate/advanced table, we'll assume you know the basics. We will be circulating to answer questions and help with rule reminders and strategies at the beginner tables, and we can settle any table rule debates at intermediate/advanced tables. We follow Modern American Canasta rules and NMJL mahjong rules.
Intro to Mah Jongg
Sign up for our mahjong learning table with a dedicated instructor (8 people max) if you are brand new to the game and want to learn the basics.
WHAT'S INCLUDED:
We'll provide all supplies for mahjong and canasta. We have a mix of traditional and modern mahjong sets. Bring your 2025 NMJL card if mahjong is your game of choice. We'll have limited card holders available for canasta-bring one if you want your own.
DETAILS:
Sign up on your own, with a friend, or your whole group! This is intended to be a great opportunity to play in a fun and inclusive, low-stakes environment. We'll prioritize helping you feel welcome and connect you with other people. Tables will be designated by level, but specific seats will not be pre-assigned. Each entry ticket enters you into a raffle to win fun prizes!
ABOUT US:
Emily and Bev are a mother-daughter duo and mahjong and canasta teachers in the Greater Boston area and on Cape Cod. We are professional educators who like to break things down to make the game accessible, fun and social!
Photography/Videography Statement: We will be documenting this event with photo and video to share on our social media accounts, website and for marketing purposes. By signing up for this event you acknowledge that photographs will be taken and agree to be included in event pictures or video. If you do not wish to be photographed, please let us know in an email prior to the event.
Registration required to save a seat. Guided and Open Play tickets are $20 per person. Food and drink available for purchase at Trident (not included in ticketing price). Mahjong learning table is $50 per person.

Refunds available until 1 week before the event. Refunds will not include eventbrite ticketing fee. If you are unable to attend but you have a friend who would like to attend in your place, they must be able to play at the same ticket level and you must send us a message with their contact info.
