Maha Shivaratri - the greatest Shiva night is celebrated every year on Chaturdashi Thithi during Krisna Paksha (period of waning moon) in the month of Magha, the 11th month of the Lunar calendar. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Mahadev got married to Aadi Sakthi, in the form of Devi Sati, who was one of the daughters of Prajapathi Daksha, himself the son of Lord Brahma.
