The Ashland Youth Ballet in partnership with the Huntington Symphony Orchestra bring to the Paramount stage three beloved holiday and winter tales. “T’was the Night” features traditional holiday tunes as the AYB junior company brings to life Clement C. Moore’s classic story, “The Night Before Christmas.” As the family settles in for the night, toys come alive, reindeer paw before the grand event of the arrival of Santa Claus! “Snow Child” is a contemporary ballet set to synthesized and heavy metal sounds of the season. The senior company dances to this beautiful and exciting work. The story tells of a barren couple who desperately want a child. After the husband forms a child from the snow, the couple learns the true meaning of love. As they say good-bye to their child this winter, she pledges to return every winter. “The Nutcracker” based off of E. T. A. Hoffman’s novel, “The Rat King,” this Christmas classic needs little explanation. An excerpted Act I (party scene, battle) moves the story along as Clara and her Nutcracker prince travel through the Land of Snow and Ice to the Land of Sweets. The orchestra accompanies the ballet company playing the original Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky score.
