What Is a Trading Card Game?
A trading card game (shortened to TCG) is a style of card game in which the entire card pool is available through random expansion packs, allowing for multiple formats of play. Magic: the Gathering is known as the first TCG and just celebrated its 30th anniversary! Craft strategic decks filled with iconic creatures and potent spells. Master the art of resource management, deploy clever tactics, and unleash devastating combos to send your opponent's forces crashing down.
Daily Schedule
Camp begins at 9:00 a.m. and runs through 3:00 p.m. each day. There will be a morning session, followed by lunch and free play of other games in the Game Kastle College Park demo library. Store staff will be on hand to teach demo library games. After lunch and free play, campers will return to the card tables for an afternoon session of play. There will be a snack in the middle of the afternoon session. Game Kastle College Park will provide a daily boxed lunch and snack to the students as part of their tuition.
Weekly Schedule
Monday - Introduction to Magic: Learn about the game and lore of Magic: the Gathering, then get right into matches with ready-to-play decks!
Tuesday - The Theory of Magic: Learn about the different color strategies in Magic: the Gathering and use that knowledge to practice upgrading and building decks.
Wednesday - Magic Constructed: Discover different formats of Magic with player-built decks, spanning Magic’s history and rarity levels. Campers will have an opportunity to build and expand on their decks using a Booster Bundle and store credit to acquire singles from our collection! We will specifically be looking at the Standard, Pauper, and Commander formats.
Thursday - Magic Limited: Learn about the Limited formats, building decks from scratch out of a small pool of cards opened during the start of the event! Campers will participate in a Draft event, a Limited format which uses a pick-and-pass style of choosing cards for deckbuilding. The Draft will include packs from the same set so campers can learn about deckbuilding for established synergies.
Friday – Magic Forever: Deepen your understanding of strategies and playstyles in the formats of your interest, and learn about the awesome events to further your Magic journey! Campers are invited to the evening’s Friday Night Magic event, entry covered by tuition. Tables will be reserved for campers and their family between the end of camp and start of Friday Night Magic at 6:30pm - the campers can teach their family what they have learned, and families are encouraged to join in the fun at FNM!
