‘Magic of Male Voice’ concert at The Temple Speech Room, 7.00pm, Saturday 26th October
This is a concert that’s organised every two years by Wigston Male Voice Choir who this year are inviting their friends from City of Coventry, Dore (Yorkshire), Pelenna (South Wales) and Rugby Male Voice Choirs to join them on the stage at the Temple Speech Room for a varied selection of pieces from the male voice choir repertoire. This is guaranteed to be a spectacular show!
The LE8 Five Brass Quintet, an outstanding group made up from hugely talented and experienced brass players from the Leicester area, will be performing alongside the choirs. As well as playing its own pieces, the quintet will be joining in with the choir and organ for some of the more rousing items. Five choirs, brass and organ – absolutely glorious!
The massed choirs will be singing a wide-ranging programme including some stirring renditions of male voice favourites like Cwm Rhondda (Bread of Heaven) and Morte Criste along with some classic numbers from the likes of the Beatles, Elvis and the Hollies. One of the concert highlights is bound to be The Wind Beneath My Wings. Written by Jeff Silbar and Larry Henley, the highest-charting version of the song to date was recorded in 1988 by singer and actress Bette Midler for the soundtrack to the film Beaches. Bette did a fantastic job with the song but to hear it sung with feeling by over one hundred male voices is guaranteed to be one of those unforgettable, spine-tingling moments.
This really is a concert you should not miss and an event you will remember and treasure for many years to come. The money raised from the concert will be going to support Prostate Cancer UK.
