In this record and book release concert (Room40), Magda Mayas performs four tactile visual scores by Tina Douglas exploring materiality and gesture between the visual and the sonic.
MAGDA MAYAS has over the past 20 years developed a vocabulary based on the inside and exterior parts of the piano, using amplification, preparations, and objects as extensions of the instrument itself. Mayas explores textural, linear sound collage and has developed a set of techniques that draws on the history of prepared and inside piano vocabulary but is highly individualized, expanding the language for internal piano music making. TINA DOUGLAS is a muliti-disciplinary artist with an emphasis on painting. Explorations have also included large scale paintings on canvas, DIY conductive painting, constructed works, improvised sound via interactive conductive paintings, felt and woven works, sound-reactive video, and digital works.
