Come on down and bring a few friends, and show some aroha and support for the local music scene and the venues. Ōtepoti acts Mads Harrop, Bride Cake, Doctor Wazoo, and Akoba will be taking the stage at Pearl Diver on the 20th of September. Featuring a diverse range of musical styles and genres, including psych-pop, punk rock, folk, prog rock, indie rock, indie pop, indie jazz, and alt rock, this is a gig you will not want to miss!
Please save the date and spread the word.
Rock on!
Mads Harrop is a singer-songwriter, composer, and musician from the Waitaki Valley in North Otago, New Zealand. Her first song, Contagious World, written during lockdown in 2020, went to number one on the New Zealand Student Radio Music Charts. Her songs are both joyous and poignant, and have received wide critical acclaim.
The Mads Harrop Band has supported international acts such as The Chats, Guitar Wolf, Reb Fountain, Ha the Unclear, and many others. Mads writes songs mostly about the challenges she faces and ideas related to neurodiversity (she has Autism, Anxiety, and Tourette Syndrome).
In between gigs, work, and play, Mads is also a music producer and sound engineer. She holds multiple qualifications, most recently a Master of Music (endorsed in Music Production) from the University of Otago (her Master's is yet to be finalised).
As an original songwriter with a love for vintage instruments, effects, and style, Mads strives for an authentic sound using analogue gear.
Mads was suddenly struck with Tourette Syndrome at 19, and her ongoing journey to keep her life on track is inspirational. Her songs are a testimony to her love of music and her commitment to overcoming life’s hurdles. She is currently working on her next single, “Skyline”, which will be released later this year.
AKOBA - A moody folk singing into a guitar about an existential crisis that ultimately doesn’t really matter in our glimpse of time. But don’t worry, it’s all wrapped up in a poppy indie blanket!
Doctor Wazoo create an eclectic mix of jazz fusion, funk, and indie rock when they play - playing as a trio for the first (and potentially only) time, this will not be a set to miss!
Bride Cake - a sweet fresh band, with some driven guitars, a thoughtful rhythm section and a selection of pieced together songs!
Tickets are $15 each. Click the link included for more information.
