Kuvataiteilija Anne Roininen yhteistyökumppaneineen käyttää tulevan teoksensa materiaalina töölöläisistä kodeista kerättyjä, tarpeettomia tavaroita. Millaisista tavaroista ihmiset haluavat eroon? Kertooko se jotain alueesta ja asukkaista, vaikka ne olisivat alkuperältään kaukaa laivattuja?
Roininen on tehnyt teoksia muun muassa netin markkinapaikkojen pursuilevaan tavaramaailmaan perustuen. Töölöön hän kutsui mukaansa taiteilijat Heidi Kestin ja Andrea Coyotzi Borjan. He hankkivat alueen asukkailta tavaroita, jotka ovat käyneet tarpeettomiksi, ja käyttävät niitä assemblaasien eli esinekoosteiden ja veistosluonnosten materiaalina. Paikan päällä torikatoksessa syntyviä teoksia asetetaan esille päivittäin muuttuvaan installaatioon Mika Waltarin puistoon.
Kodeista tursuavat tavarat voivat olla turhiksi koettuja, pieneksi jääneitä, alunperinkin ei-toivottuja tai rakkaita muistoja kantavia esineitä, joista on vaikea luopua. Ne voivat kertoa jotain omistajistaan ja kodeista, joissa ne ovat olleet tai laajemmin alueesta ja aikakaudesta. Markkinoinnissa käytetään lähituotetun ja hyperlokaalin käsitteitä. Voisiko näitä töölöläisistä kodeista kerätyistä esineistä rakentuvia veistoksia ajatella lähituotantona, siis töölöläisinä lähitaideteoksina? Luultavasti iso osa niistä on tehty jossain muualla - aivan kuten muustakin meitä ympäröivästä tavarasta. Komponentit ja niiden raakamateriaalit tulevat pitkän merimatkan takaa. Globaalissa maailmassa tavara ja ideat kulkevat vilkkaasti. Mitä paikallisuus tarkoittaa tällaisessa tavaramaailmassa?
Kokonaisuuden voi nähdä sommitelmana yhteiskunnassa, antropologisena tutkimuksena esineistä, paikasta ja paikallisidentiteetistä. Tapahtuma tekee kuvataiteilijan työtä näkyväksi paitsi konkreettisella myös temaattisella tasolla. Taiteilijat kokoavat yhteen hetken teemoja, usein arjen ilmiöihin liittyvää tarkastelua.
Nyt tarjolla on mahdollisuus tulla seuraamaan, miten taiteilijat käsittelevät materiaaleja ja mitä niistä syntyy. Samalla voi nähdä, millaisia tavaroita alueelta on saatu käyttöön.

Teoskonsepti toteutettin ensimmäisen kerran kesällä 2023 Ylikiimingissä, Oulussa. Siellä taiteilijoiden käsittelyyn päätyivät mm. Sylvin silmälasikotelo ja terapiapallo, Paulin maljakko, Jarmon liimamassa, Kyöstin videonauhat, Mikon mummolan leija, Lossarin velivainaan t-paita ja valokuvakehys, sekä Tuulan edesmenneen puolison pokaalit.
Tapahtuma on osa Oksasenkatu 11 gallerian ohjelmaa ja sitä tukee SKR Pohjois-Pohjanmaa ja Helsingin kaupunki.

MADE IN TÖÖLÖ
Hyperlocal, localism and identity formation in the World of global goods market
Artist Anne Roininen and her colleagues will utilize discarded objects collected from homes in Töölö as material for their upcoming work “Made in Töölö”. What kind of things do people want to get rid of? Does it say something about the area and its inhabitants, even if the items are shipped from far?
Roininen has created works that are based on the plethora of goods available on online marketplaces. She invited artists Heidi Kesti and Andrea Coyotzi Borja to work with her in Töölö. They collect items that have become unnecessary to their owners and utilise them as material for their assemblages and sculptural sketches. The works, created on site, will be displayed in a daily changing installation in Mika Waltari Park.
Items that go to waste in homes can be perceived as useless, outgrown, unwanted in the first place or items that carry cherished memories and are difficult to part with. They can tell you something about their owners and the homes they have lived in, or more broadly about the area and the era. In marketing, the concepts of local and hyperlocal are used. Could these sculptures, made from objects collected from the homes of local people, be thought of as locally produced, i.e. as local works of art? Probably a large part of them, like all the stuff around us, is made somewhere else. The components and their raw materials are transported from a distance. In a global world, goods and ideas travel fast. What does local mean in such a world of goods?
The entire phenomenon can be viewed as a composition within the context of society, representing an anthropological study of objects, locations, and local identity. The event serves to highlight the work of the visual artist in two distinct ways: firstly, in a concrete sense, and secondly, in a thematic sense. The artists bring together a range of themes that are currently prevalent, frequently reflecting on phenomena that are part of everyday life.
The public is invited to view the processes employed by artists in their work with materials and the resulting creations. Additionally, the exhibition offers insight into the types of materials and goods that have been received for the project in the region.

The concept was first realised in the summer of 2023 in Ylikiiminki, Oulu. There the artists got a wide selection of things for their creation, including Sylvi's glasses case, Paul's vase, Jarmo's glue paste, Kyösti's videotapes, Mikko's grandmother’s kite, Lossari's T-shirt and photo frame, and Tuula's husband's trophies - among other things.
The project is part of Oksasenkatu 11 gallery programme and is made with support of North Ostrobothnia Regional Fund of Finnish Cultural Foundation and the City of Helsinki.
