A former slave, business owner and community leader who amassed more than 30 acres of land along the eastern bank of the Hillsborough River in the 1800s, Fortune Taylor was a true Tampa pioneer. This all-new walking tour will take you through the homestead of Madame Taylor, the namesake of downtown Tampa’s Fortune Street and the newly renamed Fortune Taylor Bridge.
Tours meet at the John F. Germany Library in Downtown Tampa.
History Center walking tours take place outdoors. Guests will walk approximately one mile, all outdoors, and should dress appropriately for Florida’s weather.
Tours are limited to 20 people and masks and social distancing protocols will be followed. Pre-registration is required.
