Town & Gown Players experiment with MAD SCIENTISTS IN LOVE. When a would-be world conqueror tries to factor romance into his far-out theories, will the result be a Big Bang... or a complete bust? Can humanity survive the comic calamity that ensues? Find out when the Town & Gown Players present Jim Trapp's silly sci fi stage play MAD SCIENTISTS IN LOVE this February, just in time for Valentine's Day!
MAD SCIENTISTS IN LOVE is the latest in a long string of science fiction, fantasy, and horror comedy projects from director W. Steven Carroll, whose previous work with Town & Gown includes SORORITY HOUSE OF THE DEAD, STARSTRUCK, NEVERWHERE, EVIL DEAD THE MUSICAL, MEANWHILE BACK AT THE SUPERLAIR, and THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW.
"I come to the theatre to escape from the real world," Carroll says, "and I want to create worlds on stage where the audience can escape to as well: places filled with misfits, monsters, and mad scientists, where anything can happen and all can be welcome. I try to create an environment for my cast and crew to do the same. If just for a little while, they can escape the real world, come together from all walks of life and forge a new community to collaborate and explore the fantastical with, and create something magical and otherworldly that they can share with the rest of the greater Athens community."
MAD SCIENTISTS IN LOVE stars Chris Steele, Karly Pecua, and Havivah Saltz as Ben, Gwen, and Kate, a trio of eccentric inventors out to conquer the world on their own terms, and G. Derek Adams as the confused Creature they've miraculously brought to life. It also features Georgia Laster as an oppressive corporate overlord, Josh Jeffries as her dimwitted minion, and Benvon Roberts as a naive lab assistant. The cast and crew assembled by Carroll for this production includes both fresh and familiar faces to the Town & Gown stage, and true to the organization's namesake, is filled with talent from the Athens area ("town") and many with connections to the University of Georgia ("gown"). ABOUT THE TOWN & GOWN PLAYERS
One of the oldest all-volunteer community theater companies in Georgia, the Town & Gown Players have been volunteering their time, energy, and talents since 1953 because they believe in producing great entertainment for Athens and the local community. Each season, T&G’s six Mainstage shows comprise four plays (from classics to world premieres) and two musicals. T&G’s Second Stage focuses on newer and more experimental productions, often emphasizing community engagement. T&G encourages all members of the Athens community to participate in live theater — as actors, volunteers, and audience members — and invites all community members to see what they are all about. T&G is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
