MAD is coming back to Los Angeles.
What brings us to the same table?
A recipe that’s moved through generations. A spice from a farm on the other side of the world. A dish that tastes like home to people from different places.
A global food system that’s become richer because of movement, migration, and exchange.
What does cultural abundance add to our plates? How do we create businesses that honor their origins while building for the future? Crucially, who decides how we do this work?
These are questions our speakers consider in their own work, through entrepreneurship, creativity, and activism. They’ll lead a conversation about the movement of ingredients and people and ideas. Showing that ultimately, good food is what connects us all.
- Sana Javeri Kadri, Founder of Diaspora Spice Co., a business championing a more equitable spice trade
- Lulu Wang, Writer and director of The Farewell and Expats, whose storytelling explores identity and belonging
- Anthony Wang, Chef/owner of Firstborn, where he cooks his interpretation of Chinese American cuisine
- Javier Cabral, editor of L.A. Taco, a chronicle of Los Angeles’ kaleidoscopic food landscape
We'll start with a welcome coffee before the panel discussion begins, followed by drinks and a light lunch from Manuela.
