Wednesday, February 12, 2025, 7:00–9:00 PM - ZOOM
This three-part workshop will be given as two ZOOM classes in your home, with a Saturday field work session at Leu Gardens.
Much of our session on Saturday will be at the Butterfly Garden shooting small stuff, which will include bugs and flowers, and mastering the technique of photographing flying insects with telephoto lenses.
Participants should own a DSLR or a Mirrorless camera. Note: if you do not own closeup equipment, do not purchase any until after our planning session.
Upon registration, please email three (3) of your favorite photos (any subject) to [email protected] for review at the first session. Please include your cell phone number in this email.
Wednesday, February 5, 2025, 7:00–9:00 PM, Zoom planning session
We will discuss the optional equipment that you may or may not already own (closeup attachment lenses, extension rings, macro lens). We will cover photography of wildflowers, insects, butterflies, and other small creatures. We will also discuss shooting flying insects with long lenses.
Saturday, February 8, 2025, 9:00–11:00 AM, Field photography
We will meet at Leu Gardens and immediately set out to the Butterfly Garden and other niches throughout the grounds. You will look at small nature subjects from a whole new perspective, and visually study their beauty (in a brand-new light—both literally and figuratively).
Wednesday, February 12, 2025, 7:00–9:00 PM, Show and tell critique Zoom session
Prior to this class, please select and email five {5} photos from Saturday’s field work to [email protected].
Constructive critique sessions are probably the most valuable experiences for any photographer. This session will also show how to bring your photos to their maximum visual quality using computer post-processing.
