About this Event
The ancient technique of macramé involves knotting string in patterns to make decorative textural pieces. In this ‘make and take’ workshop session, textile artist Alice Hume will use it to create indoor plant hangers whilst introducing the various ways we can better recycle waste organic matter.
Alice will be joined by Imperial College London’s own biobased and circular economy scientists Dr Agi Brandt-Talbot and Dr Raquel Prado to look at ways we can make better use of abundant and low value organic matter like leftover wood to create new products. From plant-derived carbon fibres that can replace steel and plastic from sugar, to clothing textiles produced from agricultural waste, they will explore the great manufacturing potential in biobased materials as well as explaining the true meaning of consumer terms like biodegradable and bioderived.
This event is part of the Great Exhibition Road Festival: One World.
