Welcome to Machine Sewing for Kids! This beginner sewing class is designed to teach your child the basics of sewing with a machine. Each child will sew their own simple drawstring backpack, with focus on these skills: finger safety, threading the machine, straight stitching, stopping and starting a stitch, and more.There are many skills that kids can learn from sewing, including:
Motor skills-- Sewing can help kids develop fine motor skills, finger dexterity, and hand-eye coordination.
Confidence-- Sewing can boost kids' self-confidence by giving them a sense of accomplishment.
Creativity-- Kids can express themselves through the projects they choose, the fabrics they use, and the colors and shapes they decide to sew.
Problem solving-- Sewing teaches kids valuable problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
Patience and perseverance-- Sewing can teach kids patience and perseverance, as it can be challenging to complete a project without making mistakes or encountering unexpected problems.
Communication-- Sewing can help kids develop communication and language skills as they learn to listen and follow instructions, discuss their work, and converse while sewing.
Understanding how things go together-- Sewing can help kids learn how things go together and how objects relate to each other.
Designing-- Sewing can help kids learn how to come up with their own designs.
Using materials effectively-- Sewing can help kids learn how to effectively use materials to create something new.
This class is appropriate for children with a strong interest in learning to sew and with the ability to sit still, focus, and follow instructions for 2+ hours. Parents are welcome to wait in our back classroom or drop off their child.
