We are happy to present a powerful learning experience on February 21st starting at 12:30 p.m. This will be led by Laura-Lee Campell (Metis) and Lorraine Hickmen.Called "Maanjiwe Nendamowinan – Gathering of Stories" exercise (previously known as the Kairos Blanket Exercise). Maanjiwe Nendamowinan—an Anishinaabemowin term that merges Maanjiwe (meaning "gathering" or "community") and Nendamowinan (which translates to "stories" or "histories")—serves as a reminder that sharing stories is a core aspect of Indigenous oral traditions. This revised format continues to honor the historical truths it embodies while promoting Indigenous-led facilitation and community involvement. Maanjiwe Nendamowinan is an Anishinaabemowin term. The rebranding signifies a transition towards Indigenous-led facilitation, aligning with a larger initiative by Indigenoconomics to empower First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities to manage their own projects and enterprises. For legal and liability considerations, the exercise has been restructured, yet it remains faithful to the historical truths it conveys. In Anishinaabemowin: Maanjiwe typically translates to "community" or "gathering." Nendamowinan captures the essence of "stories," "histories," and "narratives." Together, Maanjiwe Nendamowinan is interpreted as "Gathering of Stories" in English—a significant approach to engage the community in comprehending our collective Indigenous history as we navigate this journey together. The rationale behind Maanjiwe Nendamowinan – Gathering of Stories lies in its focus on gathering and sharing narratives, a vital component of Indigenous oral tradition, alongside presenting statistical facts and historical statements. It is crafted as a community walk that honors Indigenous histories, cultures, and lived experiences from the past 500 years to the present. This presentation at Whole Village will be focusing on sustainable practices and food sovereignty issues.
