MAAFA: A Day of Remembrance and Healing commemorating and honoring those that lived and died in the MAAFA (African Holocaust) and celebrate those that struggled and sacrificed to restore MA’AT(truth, justice and righteousness).

The MAAFA ceremony will be at the South Side Lions Park Lake(4600 Pecan Valley Dr, San Antonio, TX 78223 @Pavilion #1)at 9 a.m. All other events will take place at OUR PLACE(3455 MLK, SATX 78220) in San Antonio, Texas beginning at 1 p.m.

MAAT Marketing and the Pan African Cultural Community are sponsoring the “MAAFA: A Day of Remembrance and Healing” on Saturday, October 28, 2023 in San Antonio, Texas. The purpose of memorializing the MAAFA is to pay homage to the Ancestors, acknowledge the lingering effects of slavery and racism and create a community dialogue in order to develop a healing program and process.

The day will consist of a MAAFA ceremony(prayer, libation, poetry, drumming and more)and a community presentation and discussion on the mental ills of slavery/racism and how to heal and move forward and Mzimu(Ancestors Celebration)

Baba Aundar Maat, founder and organizer of the event, says, “Only the truth can set us free from the ill effects of slavery. The healing begins when we acknowledge the pain and the origin of the dis-ease. MAAFA SERUDJ-TA: A Day Remembrance and Healing is a critical step in the healing and repairing of African people and the human family.”

MAAT Marketing-KuumbaNia(Creativity with a Purpose) creates cultural products and programs to educate and empower the community. They coordinate and host cultural festivals and events such as: The Kwanzaa Market Festival; Pan-African Festival, Black History for Children Book Exhibit and others.
